In September of 2017, three organizations voted to officially endorse Donna VanderVries as the candidate for IAAO Board Member, Region 2. These organizations are:
- MAED: Michigan Association of Equalizing Directors
- MAA: Michigan Assessors Association
- MMAAO: The Mid Michigan Association of Assessing Officers
I am honored to endorse Donna VanderVries for the IAAO Executive Board Region #2 position. I have known Donna to always be the consummate assessment professional who works tirelessly to be accurate, fair, and impartial. Every taxpayer deserves fair treatment, and Donna ensures that the assessment function is carried out in the most effective and quality manner. Her vision for IAAO exemplifies her desire to be the best by educating existing and prospective members while using the latest technologies to enhance the abilities of the entire profession. I highly recommend that IAAO members follow suit in endorsing Donna VanderVries for the Region #2 Executive Board position.
Deputy County Executive/CIO

In administering one of the most unpopular taxes, assessors need advocates. They need a voice that trumpets the work, diligence, and critical value that assessors provide. They need a person who can reach out to taxpayers and legislators and bring understanding and appreciation to the profession. Donna has the voice and experience: a proven 20-year history as an assessor who happens to be an attorney, who also happens to have served on numerous executive boards, and who holds elected office. She has in ways great and small consistently brought intelligence and heart when approaching cutting edge issues such as “Dark Stores” and in her communication with legislators and other policy makers. Donna has served as a assessor, as an appraiser, and as and equalization director over her lengthy professional tenure in Michigan. We have shared thoughts and strategies, dissected recent court decisions, and assisted each other in better representing the local units we are honored to serve. IAAO has a rare opportunity to choose an assessor with unique skills and multi-disciplinary work experience, an assessor who is driven by a long-standing passion for the profession and readiness to defend it.
